ANNOUNCEMENT – New Health Human Resources Recruiter
I am excited to announce that I am joining the Muskoka & Area Ontario Health Team (MAOHT) as the region’s Health Human Resources Recruiter, effective Monday, December 9, 2024.
After two and a half years as the Director of Physician Recruitment – Canada at Jack Nathan Health, I am looking forward to returning to community physician recruitment, where I can utilize my relationship development skills to engage with existing physicians, health care & community leaders, and candidates to meet the growing needs of Muskoka and area.
This is an exciting new chapter in my professional life. After spending more than 15 years serving as the Physician Recruitment Officer for the Southern Georgian Bay area and Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland, Ontario I am ready to tackle this important role with greater knowledge and experience having worked in rural and northern Ontario.
Muskoka is a large and diverse region stretching from Georgian Bay Township in the south to Sundridge in the north. The communities of Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, and Huntsville are the main urban centres in Muskoka. Hospital sites are located in Bracebridge and Huntsville. While the majority of medical clinics are in these towns, there are clinics in nearby rural villages of Port Carling, Bala, Dorset, and Burk’s Falls.
My role will be to work with clinical partners and the Muskoka & Area OHT Human Resources Task Force to develop and implement a proactive family physician recruitment and retention program, and support Nurse Practitioner hiring through the region.
Many of the strategies I developed as a community recruiter will be refined and actioned as Muskoka’s new Physician Recruiter. They include: Recruitment through Education, Peer to Peer Recruitment, Social Media Marketing and Engagement, and Physician/Community Engagement. As well, the new Practice Ready Ontario assessment program for internationally trained physicians will be a cornerstone of my recruitment efforts.
My passion includes working with medical learners. During my previous tenure, I worked closely with the Rural Ontario Medical Program (ROMP) and physician preceptors to generate exceptional training opportunities in the community and hospitals. I’m excited to expand on these efforts and work closely with the NOSM University Site Liaison Clinician and Site Administrative Coordinator in Muskoka to complete the circle of rural medical education and recruitment.
Throughout my recruitment career I’ve used my skill-set as an entrepreneur and marketer to create long-lasting relationships with physician candidates and medical learners on their pathway to medicine. I’ve also focused on providing physicians and their families with an exceptional experience through the physician recruitment process, as a guide, mentor, and advocate. Placing physicians in the right situations ultimately means physician happiness and retention, culminating in extraordinary patient experiences.
I plan to bring this mission to my new role with the Muskoka & Area Ontario Health Team.
In closing, I would like to wish my former colleagues at Jack Nathan Health well, as the Canadian medical division of JNH was recently acquired by WELL Health Technologies, to become part of one of Canada’s largest healthcare networks. In particular, huge thanks to Jack Nathan Health Co-Founder and CEO Mike Marchelletta for his continued support.
Also, while undertaking this new contract with the Muskoka & Area Ontario Health Team, I’d be remiss not to mention that Gravelle & Associates also has a contract with the Touchstone Institute to recruit physician assessors to the Practice Ready Ontario (PRO) program. The PRO program is expected to add 100 new family doctors to rural and northern communities in 2025.
My team and I are excited to make an impact regionally and provincially. We look forward to the challenges ahead and the connections to be made.
